A site visit to Apamea was conducted on Wednesday September 10th, 2015. The damage noted was mostly attributable to illegal digging activity by looters. Other factors exacerbating the damage are continued military operations taking place nearby, neglect and exposure to the elements over the last five years, and regime snipers located in the Al-Habuseh area that overlooks the site. The snipers hinder our ability to document and protect the site. It is therefore imperative that a study is conducted on how to protect the historical site from further damage
